NET uses the Wayfarer Portable Ticket System (PTS), see
http://www.wayfarer.co.uk/solutions/farecollection/pts.htm . NET had
an initial supply of 45 such machines, see press release at bottom.
The ticket machines are two part, a printer on the left which prints
from a roll 53mm wide, 50 metres long (approx 500 tickets per roll), and the main data terminal.
The printer and data terminal communicate via a bi-directional FM radio
link, at 433MHz. The PTS include a card swipe for use with NCT
Smart card tickets such as Easy Rider. The ticket machine
number is 035994, but the number printed on the ticket is 735994.

Adjacent to the Control room on the first floor of the depot is a large area
that is used by the tram crews to check for operational notices, rosters
etc. On one side of the room, there are banks of ticket machines and
battery chargers. Each machine has 3 sets of batteries, as on busy
days the crews can go through a few sets of batteries. The machines
and batteries are marked up as sets and each has it it own charging
location. ©

Below the ticket machines are two banks of battery chargers. The bank to
the right are the grey printer batteries. These are NiMH rechargeable
batteries which should last for a shift of 8 hours or 600 tickets.
No wonder with the success of NET, the conductors have to change
batteries frequently! ©
