In order to prevent trams from inadvertently proceeding beyond the overhead
wire, there is a stop board which is only removed as and when trams are
required to enter the workshop number one road, once its pantograph has been
lowered. If a tram continues with its pantograph raised when it gets
to the end of the overhead it can can cause very serious damage to the
pantograph. ©
