2nd April 2005 - Signal Failure at Butlers Hill |
A signal failure at Butlers Hill meant that services to and from Hucknall were disrupted on the afternoon of Saturday 2nd April 2005. Technicians were working on site at Butlers Hill, and the tram service continued with delays with trams being dispatched between Butlers Hill and Hucknall by NET control, against the signals at stop and the flashing SPAS's (Signal passed at stop). Before entering the section, NET Control gave instructions to the drivers, specifying which signals were to be passed at stop, these were spelt out using the phonetic alphabet, and to continue pass the flashing SPAS's. The drivers repeated the instructions before being given permission to start. The instructions included limiting the speed to a maximum of 50Kmph. The maximum speed between Butlers Hill and Hucknall is normally 80 Kmph. This shows tram 214 working 06SH, 15:01 Hucknall to Station Street, which departed 7 minutes late, passing the signal HUS1 at stop. Attempts at getting a photo of tram with the SPAS showing a flash proved a total failure! © Stephen Dee
