What is this?  NET getting into the spirit of the "Big Spring Clean"?  No it is the very high tech solution to wheel squeal, which the previous weekend was awful in Old Market Square.  This weekend it was non existent.  Tram 202 glides silently as a milk float around the curve in from South Parade to Beast Market Hill in Old Market Square on the 11:48, 10HD Service from Station Street to Hucknall. as pressure is pumped into the yellow water container.  The workman was a wearing a Hi-Vis from Carillon.

After allowing tram 211 on the 11:25 06SE service from Hucknall to Station Street to pass, our man sprays the rail head with water.  This is the magical cure for wheel noise being employed at Old Market Square and Hyson Green Market curves.  The man spends his time split between Hyson Green and Old Market Square.

While spraying the railhead with water reduces the wheel squeal to zero, it is a soulless job and unless we have a wet summer, Carillon will need to station a person to each squeal trouble spot as the railhead will dry very quickly in hotter weather.

I had hoped to see the man spraying at Hyson Green, however there was a small flood which perhaps had made the job unnecessary.
