1st April 2006 - NET Phase Four Victoria Tunnel Works
It won't be long before trams will being going direct from Beeston and Chilwell through to the Victoria Centre and north to Arnold. Ahead of the decision, advantage is being taken of a redevelopment on Weekday Cross to open up the old Great Central Railway tunnel under the city to the Victoria Centre as NET's route to Arnold. As the old GCR was built to "continental gauge", double decked trams will be used on the Beeston - Arnold route to relieve overcrowding as seen on phase 1. The new double decked trams will form part of Alistair Darling's vision of an enhanced railway system for 21st century Britain.
