2004 Events

This series of photos was taken on Sunday 17th October 2004 during the LRTA AGM Tour of Line One and the of the Depot.  For additional photos of the tour of line one and the depot see photo reports.

Note:  The tram (211) had the partial remains of sticky tape on the inside of the screen between the drivers cab and the passenger compartment.  In some some photos this has come out as a rectangular mark on the photos.  The positions if where it occurs varies, according to the position I had in the crush to take photos!

View 04: After the apex the tram crosses the level crossing that provides entry to the Park and Ride car park for Wilkinson Street.

View 05: After the level crossing all points are hand thrown using "traditional hand levels located at the side of the track.  The Depot points are also numbered in the "DPP" series, whereas the delta points are numbered in the "WSP" series.  After crossover, DPP02, a number of roads fan out to the right.  The next point is DPP16, which fans out into 4 stabling roads. DPP01 forms the other point in the crossover out of sight.

View 06: After DPP16, the next set of points is a second crossover (DPP03 and DDP04 tram on them, which are followed by DPP05, which leads to road 4 that bypasses the depot and goes directly to the tram wash.  Following that is DPP06 which leads into the Sand House, as road 3.

View 07: The tram has turned on to road 3 and is approaching the Sand House.

View 09: Outside the Sand House, road 4 joins road 3 from the Sand House at DPP09.

View 10: Approaching the tram wash - yes we have a green light.

İStephen Dee

(ID PA179389)

View 11: Yes the tram wash works!

İStephen Dee

(ID PA179390)

View 12: I hope the tram doesn't leak!

İStephen Dee

(ID PA179391)

View 13: Oops the view is still a bit damp

İStephen Dee

(ID PA179393)

View 14: That's better.  The Point is DPP08 where the lines, roads 1 and 2, that go through the workshop join up with the road through the tram wash.  Beyond the track goes through a turning circle to the right to bring the track to the stabling roads.

İStephen Dee

(ID PA179394)

View 15: The turning circle as would be expected is checked railed.  The Robin Hood line and the NET Line One northwards is on the right behind the hedge and lower down.

İStephen Dee

(ID PA179399)

View 16: At end of the turning circle there are 3 points as the tracks fan out to the four stabling roads, DPP10, leads to road 8 with tram 208, DDP11, leads to road 7 with tram 214 and DPP12 leads to road 6 with tram 213.  These trams are stabled at the "north" end of the sidings.

İStephen Dee

(ID PA179401)

View 17: As we pass over DPP12 and enter road 5, the depot with entry to the Sand House Road 3, and workshop road 2 is seen.  I am not sure what the hopper between roads 2 and 1 is for.

İStephen Dee

(ID PA179403)

View 18: As we head down road 5, tram 201 is in road 6, south.  Between the north and south end is "middle".  Each road is designed for 3 trams.

İStephen Dee

(ID PA179405)

View 19: As we head down road 5, tram 201 is in road 6 which then departs and crosses in front.

İStephen Dee

(ID PA179406)

View 20: Leaving road 5, the tram rejoins the main entry/exit lines at DPP16, before using the crossover DDP02/DPP01.

İStephen Dee

(ID PA179508)

View 21: On the crossover to get to the correct side, with points DPP01 in front.  DDP01 is the last hand operated points.  The facing point indicator is for WSP3.

İStephen Dee

(ID PA179510)

View 22: Before the level crossing is the facing point indicator for WSP3 which forms the apex of the delta. The delta is set for a northbound exit.  The tram waits for the points to be set for the route to the left.

İStephen Dee

(ID PA179511)

View 23: As the tram crosses the level crossing, note the give way sign as the tram is operating on line of sight.  The signal controlling the entry on to Wilkinson Street road is out of sight from my position behind the driver.  The point in front is WSP3.

İStephen Dee

(ID PA179513)

View 24: On the east side of the delta.

İStephen Dee

(ID PA179514)

View 25: The tram rejoins the main line at WSP1.  WSP2 which forms the north bound entry to the depot is just in sight on the right.

İStephen Dee

(ID PA179515)

View 26: Having joined the main line the tram crosses the northbound line on the diamond crossing and then joins Wilkinson Street.  For a drivers eye view from here to Station Street click here.
